ABOUT US
We pride ourselves on our diverse group of tour guides. If you love Heidelberg’s rich history, art, architecture, or even poetry; then become a guide and help others explore your passion. We give all of our guides free rein over how they run their tours, encouraging everyone to bring unique perspectives and ideas – to provide our customers with a truly alternative experience.
As well as getting to disseminate knowledge about your favourite aspects of Heidelberg, our current guides are offered a completely flexible role that fits their current work or school commitments.

What type of employment contract would I be on?
All of our tour guides are considered freelancers, rather than employees of Alternative Walking Tour.
How much money can I make?
The amount of money you can earn will vary depending on the type of tour and size of the group. It also depends on how often you can run the tours!
How often will I be running tours?
We try and be as flexible as possible in terms of working with your schedule. We use a simple, app-based system that lets you send us your availability each week, then we work out the rest based on the number of tours and tourists we have and confirm your timetable.
What do I need to apply as a tour guide?
To join us as a tour guide, all we ask is that you’ve spent at least 6 months living in Heidelberg and that you love our city – we want people who can use their experiences to bring their own fresh, unique perspective to the tours! We require our guides to speak good English or Spanish for our free public walking tours; however, we’re always open to speakers of other languages for our private tours.
